Foot Exercises for Plantar Fasciitis by Beth Fechner

Debilitating heel pain can be caused by a number of problems including plantar fasciitis, plantar fascia tears and fibroma. The treatment of all can include surgery and prolonged periods of discomfort. Complete tears are mostly caused by trauma of the heal or bottom of the foot.

Plantar Fasciitis may contribute to Plantar Fascia tears and long term damage. Diagnosis of debilitating heel pain using MRI or Ultrasound can determine the condition of the Plantar Fascia.

Our preferred option is to investigate debilitating heel pain using non-surgical methods first. We try to remove the excess pressure and discomfort by correctly aligning your feet, and using bio-mechanics to hold you in a corrected position.

Beth Fechner (podiatrist Leichhardt and Marrickville) has created some useful exercises that can assist with a sore heel and plantar fasciitis pain. These simple exercises stretch and warm up the muscles under your feet by scrunching your toes. Regular exercise and custom orthotics may be able to relieve the debilitating heel pain without surgery.
